Roller Shades

So have you noticed how the sun is up so early these days - and it gets earlier each day - and the birds are signing at 4:00 in the morning.  Now don't get me wrong I love spring, the sunshine and the longer days, but I also like to get a little sleep in between.  My boys think they can't go to sleep until its dark outside and they seem to get up when it's light outside.

For example - I took this picture at 7:00 in the morning - it seems like it's practically noon out there.  Really - who can sleep when the sunshine is coming in?

We have 2 inch blinds on all our windows.

But even with the blinds closed, the sunlight still comes in.

So in each of the boy's room I added a black-out roller shade.  I bought them at Lowe's, and they will even cut them to the length you need.

Since we have blinds on the inside of the window, the shades are mounted on the outside of the window.  Here it is closed.

Now see the difference in the light coming in.

These work perfectly for nap time too.  It doesn't make the rooms totally dark, but definitely helps to keep all that light from coming in.  And during the hottest part of the summer it sure helps to keep the heat out too.  But the best thing is they're hidden under the valance so you don't even know they are there.

I just roll them up and hide them away when we aren't using them.  Here is my other son's room. You didn't even know they were there when I showed you this picture from this post did you?

So now you know my secret to getting a few extra zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.  It works most days.

  2. Good thinking, Kathy! It’s great to have a few many extra blinds, so you have a variety to choose from, depending on your needs. Aside from that, at least your window won’t look dull wearing the same treatments for a long time. Cheers!
