Stands

This year for Christmas my brother-in-law and sister-in-law gave me a set of stands.  They can be used as cake stands, serving trays or for decorating - whatever your heart desires.

I love the different sizes and that they made them.  They used some square pieces of wood and a table leg or a decorative post and screwed them together - simple as that.  What a fun gift idea.

I decided to use one of them as a stand for my stackers to add a little height.

I can't wait to use these in various places in my home thoughout the year to decorate with and also to use for parties and family get together as a serving stand.

So what would you use them for?

Happy Valentine's Day Card

I love to send care packages for the holidays and since my family is all over the country, this is a great way to keep in touch.  But since shipping can get expensive for all those packages, I decided to send only one care package for each holiday to one of my siblings.  That way they each get their own package at least once a year, and it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

This year one of my siblings will get a set of these stackers along with some other Valentine goodies.  But for everyone else we wanted to send them some Valentine wishes, so I made a bunch of Valentine cards.

So do you send care packages or make Valentine's for your family?

Decorating with Candy

Valentine's Day is a perfect holiday to decorate with candy.  Red hots, candy hearts, gum balls and jelly beans are perfect to use to fill glass jars to help decorate for the holiday.  I found some pink, white and red jelly beans and decided they would be perfect for my apothecary jar.

Instead of just throwing them all together in the jar, I decided to separate them.  My little helper loved doing this project.

The kid didn't eat a single one, until the end when he asked nicely if he could have one.  I gave him a few for his hard work.  Then we layered them in the jar.

And put them up on the cupboards to add a pop of color.

Even though they are mostly for looks and high on the cupboards, my husband likes to snitch a few here and there.  We'll see if they last until Valentine's.  So do you decorate with candy for the holidays?

Dollar Tree Valentine Frame Update

I bought this frame at the Dollar Tree last year, and I like to change it up for each season or holiday that comes along.

Last year for Valentine's I added some black and white scrapbook paper and a glitter heart and put it up on my kitchen cupboards.

This year I decided to change it up a bit.  I had some scrapbook supplies on hand that I decided to use.

Put it all together with some double sided tape and was done in just a few minutes.

I acutally used two hearts on top of each other with a little foam tape to give it some dimension.  Now it's hanging pretty in my hallway.

Valentine Stackers

I love stackers and think they are perfect for every holiday - definitely not an original idea these days, but I still love them.  I have several sets but I wanted to make some to go with my red/black/white theme this year.

I went to Home Depot and had a 2x2 piece of wood cut into 4, 6, 8 and 10 inch pieces.  Painted them Americana Primary Red.

Then cut some strips of scrapbook paper to fit on each block.

I ordered some vinyl from Utah Vinyl and added it to the paper.

Then used a little Mod Podge and attached them to the blocks and put another coat on top to seal it.

I put them on top of my cupboards.

I made three sets and have one set of vinyl left over for one of you lucky readers.

Does anyone want to make a set?  Just leave me a comment to win the vinyl only - deadline is January 29 midnight (MST).

Valentine Mantel

Last year I made these framed LOVE letters and I decided to use them again this year on my mantel.  I made a heart plate and a framed heart to sit on either side of the frames.

The big red heart is actually a red plastic serving plate I picked up at Walmart last year for $1.50.  I have a few more of them around my house as well.

I also made the red felt balls last year.  And since I finally finished my banner, it now looks complete.  So there ya have it - my Valentine mantel.

Be Mine Banner

I liked my Grateful banner that I made for Thanksgiving, so I decided to make a Valentine banner that was very similar.

I printed off some letters that I created in Word to use as a template.

Then traced them and cut them out of red cardstock.

I used some black and white pattern paper to cut out the pennants.

Added my letters with a little foam tape for some dimension.

Then threaded some red ribbon through each corner.

Now it's ready to hang.

Perfect for Valentine's Day.

Personalized Framed Art

I recently showed you the project I made using some letters I downloaded from the Internet here.

Well I decided to make a couple more projects.  I found a frame at Walmart that holds four 4 by 6 photos ($5.00).

I downloaded some free letters and had them printed up at Costco.

Then I framed them.

Another project I did was with a smaller frame I also found at Walmart ($3.00), which holds two 4 by 6 photos.

This time I decided to use wallet size photos that I had printed at Costco as well ($.39 a sheet).

I cut the letters down just a tad and then cut out that center bar in the matting and lined all the letters up to fit in the mat.

I love how it turned out.  I plan to make a few more of these for birthday gifts.

These make such great personalized gifts.  You could even do first names too.

2x4 Snowman

So did you enjoy the holiday yesterday?  Luckily, I had the day off work.  I spent most of the day cleaning out my youngest son's closet sorting clothes and organizing.  So nice to get it done.  How is your organization coming along?

On another note, my talented cousin, Tiffany, made the cutest snowman for our family for Christmas this year.  I just had to share it with you.  So simple, but yet adorable and perfect for this wintery month.

She used three 2x4's stacked and added some button eyes, beadboard nose, and a burlap scarf.  Simply adorable.  Here he is "melting" as my boys call it.

So keep this in mind for next year if you need a neighbor or co-worker gift.
