Photo Display

I had a set of 3 candlesticks that I wanted to give a little face lift to and I was a little inspired by the girls over at Shanty2Chic, so here's what I did.

I had my nice cousin chop them in half for me. Thanks Tiff!! I had a few pieces of wood left over from another project and I found some table legs at the Home Depot for $.99 each. So here is what I started with.

I first drilled a pilot hole for the table leg and then screwed that in the top.

I used some wood glue and attached the candlesticks. I gave one of them a coat of black spray paint.

Then a coat of white spray paint and sanded the edges a bit for the black to show through.

I found some cute tacks at Walmart for $3.00 to use to attach a photo.

This is how it turned out. I love it!! By using the tacks, I can easily change out my photo. I have two of these left so I'll show you those later.

Dollar Tree Felt Balls Instead of Candles

A while back I showed you my first Craig's list find here. I loved my candlesticks, but I wasn't overly excited about the actual candles. So I decided to make this.

I have seen these on several blogs, but I found a tutorial here and here. So I bought my supplies at Dollar Tree - a package of red felt and a two pack of styrofoam balls.

I cut out a bunch of circles - I got 3 circles out of one piece of felt, just to give you a idea of the size. Then followed the tutorial and made my felt balls. I used one whole package of felt per ball.

I think they look perfect for Valentine's.

Dollar Tree Valentine Frame

I found this cute white square frame at Dollar Tree the other day and thought it would be perfect for a Valentine decoration - it even came with a ribbon attached to hang it.

I also bought a package of some heart picks.

I added a piece of scrapbook paper behind the glass and then used a glue dot to attach the heart to the front. I just love how it turned out.

Now it's sitting pretty on my kitchen cupboards. Super simple craft!! Thanks Dollar Tree.

Metal Art

Somehow my BEFORE picture is gone, but let me just tell you about my Ross find. I found this metal art piece that was $7.99 and was this awful spongy green/cream color. I decided to give it a couple coats of Heirloom White.

Much better. But I wanted to be able to see all that detail better so I pulled out my stain and just wiped some on. I also painted my little Dollar Tree find.

See all that beautiful detail.

I ended up just leaning it on my bakers rack. I really like how it turned out.

I love what a little spray paint can do!!

Christmas Again

Last weekend we were finally able to have our family Christmas party in Idaho - nothing like 3 weeks late eh? Well with all the sickness going around we had to cancel it back in December. But it was kind of fun to spread out all the gift opening. I wanted to show you what I got from my sister-in-law. This beautiful picture of Christ.

It's one of my favorites. I ended up hanging it by my stairs.

Now I can see it everyday as I come and go. I love it!! Thanks Jill.

Mail Caddy Update

Last June, I posted about my thrift store find mail caddy here. See how pretty it was.

Well I ended up spray painting it black, which made it look so much better of course. But I was getting a little tired of all the black on my desk at work and wanted to lighten things up a bit, so I decided to spray paint it white and distress it a little with some sand paper.

Much better. Even though I had to spray paint in 30 degree weather, I got it done and ready to take into work tomorrow.

Kitchen Cupboard Decor

Ever since the Christmas decor came down, my cupboards have looked like this. I used lots of green and black. My newest purchase was the moss rocks in my apothecary jar. I found them at Michael's on sale. They filled the jar perfectly and I just love the look of them. (click on picture to enlarge)

Here is the other side of my cupboards with my dollar store polka dot plate and other items.

We'll see what I come up with for Valentine's Day.

Valentine Subway Art

Well the girls over at eighteen25 made some more subway art. I showed you the Christmas one.

Now they created a Valentine's one.

I used the same 16x20 frame that I had purchased at Michael's and just switched it up with my Valentine Subway Art. I love how it turned out!! I had it printed at Costco. So for $5.99 plus tax, I have some lovely art.

Since we're less than a month a way from the big V-day, I figured it's about time I start working on my decor. We'll see how much I actually get done this week.

Mercury Glass Candle Holders

Okay, I did a little more research on my Craig's List find that I showed you here. I soon realized that these are mercury glass candle holders (okay, so I'm a little slow) and look very similar to the ones I spotted on Pier 1 Imports' website. Look how pretty they are.

Pier 1 Imports

The only bad thing - the price $28 and $22.

Now here is a picture of my find for $5.00 (for the lot). I think they're practically identical, just a slight difference in the shape. But for the price - can't beat it.

I was pretty happy with my find, but knowing I got a steal, makes me even happier. Jackpot!!!

Picture Frame Transformation

Okay, I finally finished my picture frames and they turned out just as I imagined. So you remember my pictures on my mantle that I said I was going to give a little makeover.

They originally were gold frames until I spray painted them black last year and hung them above our couch. But as you can see, they don't fill the space well enough and get lost on that big wall.

I had these other two 5x7 frames that I was going to use with this project too. They were a cherry wood color with a little gold boarder.

So anyway, I first took off the backing and the million staples in the back of each frame.

Then I sprayed them with a couple coats of Heirloom White.

I bought a roll of brown paper with cream flowers at Dollar Tree that I used for the backing and cut a piece to size and put it under the glass.

Then I added my photo and put some glue dots on the back of the smaller frame.

Then I attached it to the bigger frame and came up with this.

I'm sure this probably isn't an original idea, but I thought it was pretty clever. I love how they turned out.

So just a little recap from this long post - BEFORE:
